He was the first Malaysian psychiatrist to head the Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Malaya. He has contributed greatly to the development of psychiatry in our country particularly in the training of psychiatrist in the early days whereby University of Malaya was the pioneer of postgraduate training for psychiatry. We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy and prayers to Professor Tan’s family.
